I just looked at /etc/attach.conf...  I thought the decision was to only
leave a comment.  Given that I looked at the contents of the file, I had
to look again to see there was a comment at the top of it.

Having only a comment would be more useful.

Essentially, attach is on the root, and so is its configuration file.
It is impossible for the two to get out of sync, without trying really
hard (and if you are doing that, you are probably also copying in other
things such as a mixing 7.2 and 7.3 kernels and afsd's, which will most
certainly lose, as Ted discovered).
