Scrollbars on xterms

When I use the "third" button to manipulate the scrollbars on my
xterms, black stripes appear in the scroll bar handle. Since I use a
black background as the default for windows, it may be only that the
background is showing through the handle. This phenomenon occurs
regardless of the location of the xterm on my screen, so it appears
not to be a hardware problem. It also occurs regardless of the length
of time that an xterm has been up, and is unaffected by my logging
out.
I noticed this change in behavior on an RT with 8 Mb of RAM running 7.3C.
