The reason that "set printer" would not work is that you has "andrew" attached.
The andrew locker is not compatible with the latest release.
I was able to reproduce your problem by having andrew attached.
When I used "setup andrew" I get:
medusa% setup andrew
Attaching andrew ...
Running commands in /mit/andrew/.attachrc ...
This version of the andrew locker is
incompatible with the version of Athena software you are running.
Creating preferences file in home directory.
medusa% detach andrew
detach: tandrew detached
medusa% setup tandrew
Attaching tandrew ...
Running commands in /mit/andrew/.attachrc ...
Running ez w/o the andrew locker attached works. Running with the tandrew locker
attached works. Running w/ the andrew locker attach fails.
When on a test machine, you should use tandrew and you will not have any
problems.
