steve-dallas (and, I just discovered, bill-the-cat) would not allow
logins today -- xlogin said "Workstation failed to activate properly,
contact Athena ops" or somesuch. The machines were already activated.
Logging in as root (on console), deactivating and reactivating the
machines solved the problem.
Does this have anything to do with speaker (the srvd server for these
machines) having gone down yesterday?
