I noticed that the machines in the SIPB office (which are now running
xdm, with RVD system packs) have had trouble detaching /srvd.
(Specifically, they couldn't. Marc says it's probably due to
/usr/.../rgb.txt being kept open.)
I logged in to look at the console text, but found the messages from
deactivation were no longer there. When I was trying to scroll it
further up just to be sure, I got a bunch of garbage characters in two
lines above the "top" of my text.
The first line is just black squares on the white background. The
second is a solid black line, with some extra black pixels, as though
a large number of lines of text with occasional descenders were
overprinted.
