This happened when I logged out to leave for Thanksgiving, but
since I was in a hurry, I didn't log back in to report the
problem. I noticed that my workstation had not undergone
reactivation for some time. While logged in over dialup, I
ran "f" to see who was logged in. "jik" was supposedly logged
in on ttyv0 but didn't own any processes. Earlier, I was
supposedly logged in on ttyv0 even though I really wasn't. I
just copied /dev/null to /etc/utmp before logging out, and the
workstation deactivated properly.

Somewhere, under some circumstances, /etc/utmp is not being
properly updated when someone logs out.
