I, too, have experienced both the missing console window and the
non-functional delete key.
Today when I logged in, the console window didn't come up. Doing a
show_console popped it up, but it was empty.
Further, the tty modes are not correct -- as someone else has
reported, crt is missing. Are you doing an "stty dec" as in
/etc/athena/xdm/Xsession, and if so, are the stdin and stdout of the
script/program that does it a pty from which the other programs are
started, so that the stty changes will be inherited?
