Good day,
We are pleased to announce the upgrade of MIT's Red Hat Network (RHN)
service.
Our RHN service provides workstations and servers running Red Hat
Enterprise Linux automatic operating system updates from a local, MIT
maintained server. To utilize this free service provided by IS&T for
MIT,
register using the links provided below.
IS&T's Red Hat Network service has been upgraded to Red Hat Satellite
Server service in order to:
* Allow MIT to control the service maintenance locally and
address customer concerns about Red Hat managed un-announced and
long-duration outages.
* Provide management and provisioning features per customer
request.
* Provide a simpler registration procedure that does not require
inputing a registration key.
* Spread the load of updates to improve network and update
performance.
Our entitlement to run the old Red Hat Proxy Server expires on June 30.
Since Red Hat did not provide a scalable way to automatically migrate
customers to the new server, a simplified manual re-registration process
must be completed by June 30 to continue to receive updates.
Existing RHN customers have already been contacted. Many became early
adopters and successfully migrated to the new service.
To register as a new user of the Red Hat Network at MIT go to:
https://nic.mit.edu/cgi-bin/rhnreg
If you are already a user of RHN Proxy and need to switch to RHN
Satellite the simplified re-registration instructions are at:
http://itinfo.mit.edu/answer.php?id=7784
We also strongly recommend that all existing MIT RHN users take the new
daily update configuration. Instructions to do that are at:
http://itinfo.mit.edu/article?id=7780
