Re: Eudora 5.2.x Release Effort Underway
The Eudora Release Team has begun the effort to deliver Eudora 5.2.x
(5.2.1 on Windows and 5.2.2 on Macintosh platforms) to the MIT
community. The release effort will focus on testing of the product,
creating documentation for the product, gearing up support, and
packaging the product for the MIT environment.
Please note that due to a Eudora bug involving Kerberos and IMAP, you
should not download and install Eudora 5.2.1 from Qualcomm's site on
Macintosh platforms. If you have already done so, then you will need to
re-install a previous version of Eudora (5.2 on Mac OS X and 5.0.1 on
Mac OS 9.x systems) in order to read e-mail again. Qualcomm has released
a new version that fixes the bug, but currently they do not distribute
that version from their download site. This version will become
available from the MIT Software page once the release effort finishes.
Also note that on the Windows platform you need to add two lines to your
eudora.ini file to enable MIT Kerberos authentication for IMAP. The MIT
Eudora 5.1 installer and all future MIT released Eudora installers will
handle this modification for you. For more information on making these
changes, see the release notebook linked below.
Version 5.2.x's key features include:
-Kerberos V Authentication for incoming and outgoing email (all
platforms)
-Enhanced filtering (match addresses against the address book) (all
platforms)
-Drag attachments out of messages and drop into other locations on your
desktop (Windows)
-IS support for IMAP
To learn more about its features, please visit the following URL:

We will send updates throughout the process. For more information on
Eudora and the release effort, see the Eudora Release Notebook at
http://web.mit.edu/swrt/releases/eudora. If you have questions,
suggestions, or would like to participate in the release of Eudora,
please contact the team via email at eudora-release@mit.edu.
