Subject: VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 Release Effort Underway
Cc: itag, infosys
The VirusScan Release Team has begun the effort to deliver VirusScan 7.0
Enterprise to the MIT community. The release effort will focus on testing
of the product, creating documentation for the product, gearing up support,
and packaging the product for the MIT environment pre-configured to
automatically update and scan for viruses.
VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 was released by NAI/McAfee last week and should
not be confused with VirusScan 7 which is McAfee's similarly named but very
different product geared towards individual home users.
The key features in VirusScan Enterprise 7.0 are:
- combined updates: service packs, DAT, & engine updates all happen through
the same process
- updates can be resumed: if your update stops before completion, you can
resume it later to finish the process
- one product for both desktops and servers
- faster scanning that can be paused and resumed
- does NOT work on Windows 95, 98 or ME

We will send updates throughout the process. For more information on
VirusScan Enterprise and the release effort, see

suggestions, please contact the team via e-mail at virusscan-release@mit.edu.
