Re: Netscape 6.01
After testing in the MIT environment, and with off-campus web sites
associated with MIT, the IS Netscape Release Team has determined that
Netscape 6 or 6.01 will not be supported at this time, and are not
recommended for use with MIT web applications.
Many web pages do not behave as expected, or exhibit other problems under
Netscape 6.01. Also, some web sites are not yet set up to work with these
versions; for example, the Fidelity NetBenefits site, accessible through
MIT's Benefits Office web page.
Netscape 6.01 and MIT Certificates
In an upgrade, Netscape 6.01 is not consistent in how it deals with
existing personal certificates on the Windows and Macintosh platforms. The
MIT certificate servers do not currently issue new certificates to 6.01
clients.
Continued Testing
We will continue to monitor this and future Netscape releases, and to test
on both MIT and non-MIT sites. Information about the status of Netscape at
MIT will be posted on the Netscape Release Notebook at
http://web.mit/edu/swrt/netscape.
If you choose to install and use Netscape 6.01 on your own, the Netscape
Release Team would appreciate reports of any problems you may find. Please
