Product Release Effort Underway
-------------------------------
In late Fall 2000, Macromedia began shipping Dreamweaver 4 as part of its
Dreamweaver 4/Fireworks 4 Studio. More recently, Dreamweaver 4 became
available as a standalone product for business or educational consumers.
The IS Dreamweaver Product Release Team will soon begin testing the
standalone version of the product for compatibility within the MIT
computing environment, with the goal of establishing support and making the
software available to the MIT community late this Spring. (IS will support
the standalone version of the product only, not the combined Studio version
-- MIT's volume license is for the standalone version.)
IS does not recommend that MIT users upgrade to Dreamweaver 4 until the team
has had a chance to fully evaluate it. (Even if the software proves fit for
MIT, note that the software has higher system requirements than previous
versions of the product and will not work on older versions of the Mac OS.)
New Features
------------
Dreamweaver 4 provides bug fixes and many new features:
-- New "Code View" offers improved interaction between HTML and page layout
views
-- Online code reference provided by O'Reilly Publications
-- JavaScript debugger
-- Stronger ability to manage and track different graphics and other media
assets
An overview of the new product features is available at

with a full feature tour at

Testing
-------
We will be soliciting testers within the next few weeks and will send a
separate message with details.
Software Distribution
---------------------
We will be examining the terms of our volume license agreement with
Macromedia to determine a distribution strategy for Dreamweaver 4.
