Good Afternoon,
The Fetch Release Team is proud to announce the release of Fetch 4.0.2.
Fetch is a program for transferring files between a user's Mac OS
computer system and other computer systems, including MIT's Athena
computing
environment. When used in conjunction with Kerberos, user authentication
and data are both encrypted and secure.
Who Should Download and Why
----------------------------------------------
This latest version of Fetch provides a number of advantages and added
functionality over the previously supported version, and adds native Mac
OS X support.
This version is not a critical update although it does feature many
enhancements and bug fixes. If your department has a local computer
administrator, then IS recommends that you consult him or her first
before downloading and installing this new software. If your department
does not have a local computer administrator, then IS recommends that
you carefully review the list of new features and bug fixes and
determine whether you would benefit from upgrading to this newer version
before downloading and installing it.
Notable Features and Bug Fixes
---------------------------------
-Full compatibility with every Mac OS from 7.0 to X.
-Mirror command to synchronize local and remote folders, allowing
one-click website updating.
-Drag-and-drop transfers from server to server.
-Resume downloads even after Fetch quits or your machine crashes.
-Create and edit remote text and image files with BBEdit and Graphic
Converter.
-Support for GSS (Kerberos 5) security.
-Support for 11 different kinds of proxy servers.
-View Media File command to preview images, sounds, movies.
-Contextual menus -- Control-click to see a list of relevant commands.
-Move files and folders by dragging the icons around.
-Get Info command to total the size of folders.
-Support added for transferring files larger than 2GB.
Known Issues
---------------------
-Fetch 4.0.2 does not work with KClient (Kerberos 4). Fetch 4.0.2 does
work, however, with GSS (Kerberos 5).
-Fetch 4.0.2 does not work with Kerberos behind Network Address
Translation (NAT) boxes.
Where to get Fetch 4.0.2
---------------------------------
The installer is available from http://web.mit.edu/software/ as Fetch
