Hello:

The Netscape Release Team has finished evaluating and preliminary testing
of Netscape 6.2.2 for Windows and Macintosh. At this time, we wish to
extend testing to the MIT community. We are looking for approximately 20
volunteers who would be able to volunteer a few hours of their time. In
addition, we are interested in IMAP users for testing Netscape Mail.

Netscape 6.2, the latest update to the Netscape browser suite, lets you
accomplish more on-line with efficiency in completing tasks, power through
more choice and safety with more control. Netscape also supports Mac OS X*
and Windows XP*.

*Mac OS X and Windows XP are not supported at this time.

Some issues to consider prior to volunteering:

Available time for active evaluation:
- a 2-3 hour allotment for testing

What we will test:
  - installation process (upgrading and new installs)
  - new features
  - netscape mail (upgrading from netscape messenger and new accounts)
  - integration within the MIT environment
  - usefulness of the on-line help and help features embedded within the
application
  - usefulness of the draft MIT documentation.

If you agree to assist, we will provide the following:
  - certificate based installer
  - draft documentation
  - test results reporting form
  - help

STANDARD DISCLAIMER:
While we would prefer that you conduct the test on a machine that will
receive regular use, the software you will be testing could cause
unexpected changes to your system. If you do use a production machine, you
should plan to back up before installing the software and frequently during
the testing process

As an alternative, we offer the Integration Laboratory located in N42 for
testing or the Software Release Team Test Lab located in W92. If you would
prefer to test in a lab, please contact me to make arrangements.

If you are interested in assisting with the evaluation, please contact me
by Friday, April 19th. Testing is expected to commence next week and will
send a separate communication with all the details as time draws near.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or, the
Netscape Release Team (netscape-release@mit.edu)
