I know this is WAY too late for incorporation into Athena 8.1 for the SGI.
But I would like people to know that I finally have the production patch
1489 which works around the hardware bug that was preventing me from
running Andrew Messages.
I have installed it under the Beta of Athena 8.1 and have been using it
for two weeks myself without incident.
Question1: Where should I put this patch to enqueue it for eventual
incorporation?
Question2: What principles should guide our decision to incorporate it?
I suspect we'll not want to fiddle with the SGI release with so broad a
patch as 1489 before an IAP release.
What do other people think?
The patch DOES work around a hardware bug in the CPU chip...
