So far as this goes: >It also gave the name of a file library that was giving it trouble but >since it began rebooting it flew by too fast for me to write it down. I >assume this auto update error is what made the machine reboot 11 times a >day while I was gone. The error will also be recorded in /var/athena/update.log. Boot the machine, log in (it won't try and update with someone logged in), and then have a look at that to find out what the failed dependencies are. Someone almost certainly has added additional packages with rpm, and they conflict with packages in the new release. The easiest thing to do at this point is to remove the additional packages that are giving you trouble, take the update, and then (assuming you still need them) install the 7.3 versions of these packages. Once you think you've got it sorted, at a root prompt, "/etc/athena/update_ws 9.1" will try and update the system, and tell you if/when/how it fails, without forcing a reboot aftwards. (A lot of this lore will be covered in the new version of the Private Workstation Owner's Guide, but it's still in the works.)
