Solaris RPM plan We will release Athena 9.2 for Solaris as RPMs and install all of it local on machines without separate /usr and /var partitions. We will still have a srvd for the sake of machines with separate /usr and /var partitions, since they won't have room to install the RPMs. We'll continue to use track on those machines. We will continue to have an rvd because we need it for /os; the RPMs will live under /install. It sounds like pkgadd/patchadd might get faster in Solaris, some day (the Solaris 9 pkgadd might be faster, possibly), at which point we could maybe install all of Solaris local as well. 2. Release notes They are available via help, as of the next volume release. They will be updated over the next month. 3. Linux installer We will stop supporting the etherboot floppy at some point, though we will (at least for a while) continue to reset the EEPROM settings if people boot off of it. We are close to having a 9.1 installer. 4. Next patch release Will include AFS fakestat support, 200MB more local stuff on Solaris (mostly for Evolution), and a few groundwork features for disconnected operation. It should go to the dev cell around the 5th, and to the Athena cell on the 19th. 5. Status report We did our status report; it will show up here in future mail.
