Accomplishments past period:
Set by goals:
PROGRESS: Deploy usable test version of Netscape 6.2.x for Linux and Sun
in infoagents locker. (Finally understood how to do configs!)
DELAYED: Begin testing of Netscape 6.2.x (Target date July 15)
PROGRESS: Prepare drafts of User Release notes for Athena 9.1.
DELAYED: Craft, and test DOS floppy stand-alone remedy to etherboot
problem.
PROGRESS: Get andrew locker working on Linux
PROGRESS: Work on bug fixes for Nautilus so that it will run on all
platforms. (Works on Solaris, but not very well on IRIX. Has
problems if you are logged onto multiple Athena platforms.)
TERMINATED: Prune CellServ.db on Linux and Sun so OpenAFS DYNROOT
functionality will help file browsing in applications run more quickly.
(We will instead go with fake-stat patches, either in IAP or in the 9.2
release. The pruning turned out to cut 130 cells to 100 cells. Not
enough to really have value for the effort expended.)
DONE: Deploy Athena 9.1 Early release.
(See http://web.mit.edu/release/www/explain.html for what is in
the Early release, and where it fits into the release cycle.)
DONE: Lots of testing and bug fixing of Athena 9.1 Early.
PROGRESS: Work on prototype for Athena disconnected operation.
DONE: Remove final two restricted packages from relese:
Move transcript suite to a locker.
Put freeware equivalent to popular transcript tools in release.
Move enscript source to restricted area, remove restriction on
binary.
Other Accomplishments:
Security patch releases for Linux and IRIX
Fixed Linux installer for IBM machines on congested networks,
further enhancement: drivers for more new hardware.

Additional comments:
It would be ideal if we could obtain a complete list of unanticipated
issues so that we could plan for them.
Athena Monthly machine counts:
Summary:
1109 Solaris up 15
984 Linux up 24
How we do it: Every time an Athena system reboots, the event is logged
centrally. We count the unique host names over a period of months.
This is an imperfect count, but it's the best guess we currently have.
Next month we will switch to Athena systems explicitly syslogging their
existance, but that will not count systems that fail to update.)
Here are the number of reboots we saw:
Solaris:
Month: Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun
This: 922 568 899 535 857 487
Sum: 961 1010 1043 1068 1094 1109
Linux:
Month: Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun
This: 612 579 636 542 437 524
Sum: 678 789 872 916 960 984
