I've communicated with Mark Virtue and Ezra Peisach on the history of
blank versus wandering X. Ezra's memory is that the X consortium made
it the default in one of the revisions of X, 2 to 3 or 3 to 4 or some
such. Mark's recollection is that it was what the Vendor X did by
default.
We never had pressing reason to change it until now.
I propose that we go back to the wandering X, and make things less
inconvenient for our private workstation users.
I propose that we do it sooner rather than later so that the Athena
Insider Article does not have to go to the currently planned great
lengths to help people deal with it.
Anyone disagree?
