Subject: 8.1.11 patch release for Suns and SGIs
An 8.1 patch release for both Sun and SGI workstations is scheduled to
be deployed on Monday September 29. The changes are:
	* Solaris patches 103640-12 and 103600-03 were applied to see
if they help with the problem Sparc 4s have with freezing
	  up.
	* Solaris patch 103699-01 was applied to stop ping from
dumping core on "ICMP Administratively Prohibited" packets.
	* The Athena startup script runs rpd as well as olcd on OLC
	  server machines.
	* The Athena startup script chmods the CD-ROM device on Suns
so it can be accessed by MAE.
	* syncconf has a couple of fixes for Solaris: the init script
which runs it correctly checks whether it's being run at
shutdown or startup time when deciding whether to reboot,
and syncconf triggers a reboot when either the IP address or
hostname changes, instead of just the hostname.
	* A patch to cleanup has been applied to make it looks at the
utmpx file instead of the utmp file, to compensate for a bug
	  in ftpd.
	* The setup_tty macro now uses $SHELL instead of invoking csh
	  directly.
	* The Athena tty login program now recognizes the "-d" option.
	* There is a more robust fix for the problem of a user showing
up in too many groups in the /etc/group file.
	* The krb5 login program (used by rlogind) no longer sets
KRBTKFILE if it didn't get tickets.
	* Public SGIs should properly detect and chmod the zip drive
	  device.
	* "dvips -o filename" should work again.
