From: Jonathan D Reed <jdreed@MIT.EDU> To: "release-announce@mit.edu" <release-announce@MIT.EDU> Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2014 13:51:18 +0000 Message-ID: <62E91410-F87A-4128-9B90-A3755F046367@MIT.EDU> Content-Language: en-US Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252" Content-ID: <3925DEA81557404C97D2A7195D0B4E72@exchange.mit.edu> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Errors-To: release-announce-bounces@MIT.EDU Good morning, The newest version of Debathena, based on Ubuntu 14.04 (“Trusty”) is scheduled for Monday, August 11. IS&T-maintained public workstations in Athena computing labs and elsewhere on campus will automatically upgrade at that time. Release notes, including additional information for locker maintainers and private workstation owners, can be found in the MIT Knowledge Base at: http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/9XIYCQ We will continue to update them through the end of August, should any new issues be discovered. The athena.dialup.mit.edu remote login servers are scheduled to be upgraded during the week of August 11, 2013. More information will be posted on 3DOWN (http://3down.mit.edu) prior to the upgrade. Note that after the upgrade, the dialup servers will no longer support FTP with GSSAPI (Kerberized FTP). For more information, see: http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/oXcYCQ As with all Athena releases, a downgrade is not possible without wiping and re-installing the workstation, so users who rely on Athena for their daily work and/or use software not maintained or installed by IS&T (including software installed in course lockers) are strongly encouraged to fully test all software and courseware before upgrading their personal workstation. If you are receiving this e-mail, but are no longer responsible for Athena workstations or software in your department, lab, or center, please forward this message to your colleagues and encourage them to sign up for this list at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/release-announce Cordially, Jonathan Reed for the Athena Release Team The Athena Release Team would like to thank all its members for their contributions, including Ben Kaduk, Sean Preston, Joyce Gomes, Sar Haidar, Alex Prengel, Oliver Thomas, Heather Anne Harrison, Alex Chernyakhovsky ’13, and Victor Vasiliev ’16. We would also like to thank all the members of the community who contributed to the release over the past year.
