Good Afternoon,
NOTE: This message only applies to anyone still running Debathena on Ubuntu 8.04. If you're unsure what version you're running, see <http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/x/PwCtAQ>
In accordance with their support policy, Ubuntu ended support for Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop on May 12, 2011. The Athena Release Team will also be ending Desktop support for Hardy and will no longer be pushing out updates or new software for any Debathena packages included in the "debathena-login-graphical" or "debathena-workstation" metapackages. Debathena software included as part of the "debathena-standard" or "debathena-login" packages will still be updated as needed.
Ubuntu will continue to provide update and bugfix support for Ubuntu 8.04 Server through April 2013, and while the Athena Release Team intends to do the same, we reserve the right to end support earlier if necessary. At this time, the next Ubuntu LTS (10.04 or "Lucid") has been available for over a year, and any remaining users of Debathena on Ubuntu 8.04 are encouraged to upgrade to 10.04.
For more information on upgrading to 10.04, please see the official Ubuntu documentation at <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LucidUpgrades>. As always, IS&T recommends that you perform a complete backup prior to the upgrade and that you fully test all third party and mission critical software BEFORE you upgrade, since reverting to a previous version is not possible.
For more information on Debathena support for various Ubuntu releases, see <http://debathena.mit.edu/trac/wiki/ReleaseSupport>
