We'll be watching the anime movie Grave of the Fireflies in AiW on
Saturday night starting at 9:30 p.m. Feel free to join in if you're
interested!
Grave of the Fireflies (1988) is the story of an orphaned boy and his
younger sister and their struggle to survive in Japan in the last days
of World War II. Roger Ebert (of "two thumbs up" fame) included it in
his series Great Movies, saying that "it belongs on any list of the
greatest war films ever made." The critic Ernest Rister called it "the
most profoundly human animated film I've ever seen."
The official American DVD release of this movie seems to be out of print
at this point. I just found a used copy off eBay last week, and I'm
looking forward to seeing it again for the first time in a few years.
