2/14. Attending: The business modelling team.
ACTION ITEMS:
Everyone: Review Moore report. Get questions together and post to PRINTDEL.
Dave: Ask Moore to see if and how i-data might suit our needs.
Cecilia/Kip:
1. Continue to collect numbers
2. In researching cost allocation and cost recovery, remember to include
ASOP, Service Level Agreements, "by-the-drink" customers
3. Revisit Delivery Charter and the Pismere model.
4. Start a list of services to be included in the cost model. E.g.,
bursting, decollating, shrink-wrapping, delivery.
=====================================
2/17. Attending: Technical team
Vendor cast of characters:
Jeff Banta: IBM regional marketing rep with some technical knowledge
Phil Muolo: IBM marketing rep
Scott Kelley: Barr Systems marketing rep
Some information about InfoPrint:
1. Requires DCE (Distributed Computing Envirionment)
Some information about Barr Systems:
1. Product pricing is cheaper (than InfoPrint?)
2. Support levels are different. It's based in Florida, so no face-to-face,
onsite support.
3. Channel attach card supports Solaris. Comes as part of a developer package.
4. Also has a separate product for channel attach and mainframe queues.
5. For transformations, need Solimar. The key would be to trap info before
conversion to IPDS.
ARCHITECTURES/MODELS - at the conceptual level:
1. 2 worlds, 2 managers (mainframe and distributed). This is our current
architecture.
2. 2 worlds, one of 'em dominates and the other is transformed to the dominant.
3. 2 worlds, one manager manages both. In this model, one world is in a
decline and the other is in ascendance.
4. 1 world, 1 manager, 'cause the other world got killed!
5. Central pool (e.g., i-date) where client "pulls" a job from the printer.
This architecture would be more appropriate for the libraries and Copy Tech.
ACTION ITEMS:
ALL:
1. Check the WBS for reality. E-mail comments, omissions to PRINTDEL.
2. Read Moore report, then...
3. Compile questions for Moore, e.g., what solutions are there for the
Operating Systems that are supported at MIT; what alternatives are there to
transformation, how good will print resolution be in any of the options?
MEB/Mike:
Put some descriptive words around the models and revise the web page.
Dave:
Write out questions for Jeff Banta, including: Can we unplug ? and replace
with net card?
