Hi Andrea,
The Enterprise Print Delivery Team is currently working very hard to
implement IBM's InfoPrint Manager to interact with kerberos for central
printing.
We are aware of your needs and have done a preliminary test of one of your
mainframe forms. I did a test of x086 and was able to print a blank copy
of the form from InfoPrint manager. I have not gone further in the testing
because the Delivery team has identified other infrastructure related work
that needed to be completed before moving forward with the testing of the
so called x forms. We are also working on ensuring the security of the
resources required to print the x forms.
We also have moved production mainframe printing from the IBM 3827 printer
to a newer IBM 3160 printer which is network attachable. The effort to
remove the 3827 was the reason for the contact about forms. As part of the
"conversion" effort we needed to know what forms are still in use so that
the conversion team could test the forms on the new printer to be sure they
still looked fine.
Our current plans for the delivery team are to "go production" towards the
end of December, and turn the system over to the people who will be
responsible for the ongoing InfoPrint Manager maintenance. We understand
that your new systems will be going online in January. At this point my
understanding is that there will be a temporary way for the print files
that currently go across jnet to the mainframe, to use lpr to get to the
mainframe. The implication here is that you will still be able to print
through the mainframe, and will give the maintainers of InfoPrint Manager
time to be sure that the move off the mainframe is as smooth and secure as
printing through the mainframe.
Currently the line printers are only attachable to the
mainframe. Operations is looking at replacement network attachable line
printers that will be shareable between the mainframe and InfoPrint Manager.
