Just FYI. Here were my prep notes for the Support TLs meeting the
other day. I think the check-in was very well received. MEB can
provide any informal feedback on Monday at our meeting.

1) W91 quiz
Raise your hand if you know the answer to:
- what locations are available to the community for offsite storage
and at what fees
- name all the customers of W91 services
- what kind of printing can be handled centrally today in W91
2) Goal for today's topic

- provide a better understanding of the old & new central printing
services
- clarify the types of customers be expect for the new printing
services
- discuss potential support areas for the new services
3) Describe the old central printing services w/ deficiencies
- MF based; with print files produced from MF appls or appl servers
via point-to-point connections; uses an internal print datastream
known as IPDS; both line impact printing & page printing; special
preprinted stock for some customers; flash forms; 'n' up; mostly
large scheduled work; <.5Mpgs/mo & <5Mlines/mo
- can't do Postscript
- not easily accessible outside the MF environment
- not network based
4) Describe the new services
- uses IPM; network based; network attached printers; supports
PCL, Postscript, IPDS & plain text; can do datastream
transformations; can handle encrypted print files from source
to printers; has robust device management as well as queue
management
- easy to use browser interface for endusers & consultants
protected by SSL; ops & sysadmin interface via secured client
- file submission via klpr for desktops & servers, and browser
submittal by desktops
- desire to save MIT money by easily allowing access to cheaper
central printing services for large print files
- delivery of output by DOST shuttle and Mail Services
5) Potential customer base
- administrative application servers (business units such as CAO)
- business unit desktops (such as ancillary GL reports via
Brio from the Data Warehouse)
- desktop users
6) Potential Support services & issues
- central location for describing printing @ MIT; detailed description
of the new central printing services
- HD support for end users
- BLT help for business units (both appl server & "power" desktops
- need for Support to fully understand the service overview
and detailed service offerings
- maybe desktop user training & quick guides
