Greetings team mates.....
Jeff Banta has come and gone for the last time in conjuntion with the
installation/configuration of our new ipm servers.
We are still experiencing tcp/ip problems with plunder. This afternoon
Jeff swapped plunder onto the 10 megabit ethernet. He did the right things
to get the connection working, but as I walked out this afternoon things
went south and still appear to be funky. I can ping plunder, but I can't
log in with securecrt or the clients from here.
I can log into pillage and connect with the client...although it was way
slow. Pillage is still connected to the 100megabit ethernet.
Jeff said he would send me the problem numbers for all the trouble tickets
he opened on our behalf and Rocklyn or I can follow up with IBM.
Jeff and I also spent a bunch of time today figuring out the nup
question. It appears that the answer is yes we can set up logical
destinations to do specific nup printing from postscript files to the
3160. The postscript coming in either needs to have the page size set to
8.5 X 5.5 or 4.25 X 5.5..........or there needs to be no page size
information of any kind in the postscript. Either scenario will work. I
will need to go back and talk with DMR about what controls he has in sap
script and the postcript driver in SAP to do this. It is a small step in
the right direction, but will I think be a lot of work and a lot of
compromising on both sides to make this possible. So the final answer
appears to be that yes we can take in postscript and print it 2 up, but
there has to be some specific characteristics of the postscript as it is
generated, from sap, pdf, word, excel....whereever.
We think we have the accounting turned on. If I could access the server I
could test this, but since I don't I can't until tomorrow.
The root passwords on pillage and plunder need to be changed. Jeff gave
one of them to ibm in boulder to look at trace files. I will send mail to
jody.
Jeff and I also installed the operator client on the pc over by the
printers and set up the group access in aix/ipm. Tested it and the access
works. I will need to do some testing and checking with the operators that
it has what they need and to test restricting what they don't need.
I am still working with Ted Hanson of IBM about the service contract for
aix and therefore ipm because it runs under aix.
I think this covers where we are with the installation, configuration and
work completed this week.....and no Mary Ellen I did not forget about your
phase plan. (I got your mail just before I ran out the door and will read
it more closely in the morning and respond)
