Project Name: Enterprise Printing Delivery Project
Team Members: Kip Bruggeman, Mary Ellen Bushnell, Rocklyn Clarke,
Lynne Durland, Dave Lambert & Cecilia Talamantes
Report Date: 10/02/2000
Project Notebook: http://web.mit.edu/is/delivery/enterprint/
Accomplishments for the past period:
- received production & test/backup servers; installed production & test
server h/w; ASST & Pioneer consultant installed & configured AIX
- reviewed IBM's proposed contract for the initial IPM installation
work; received funding for same (thank you, Bob); completed 2/3
of the IPM initial installation efforts; installed underlying fonts
and drivers for HP printers; installed admin & op clients on
NT & 2000; installed select client on NT & printed successfully
- held meeting with Kelley, Rippcondi, Schiller & Lambert to address
the immediate printing needs of SSIT; decided they will require
encryption for network based distributed printing; provided Kelley
with i-data contact info; Schiller to produce an ITAG statement (we've
been awaiting this statement for over a year!); determined that
encrypted print files can be handled by IPM
- identified & secured a Mac client developer resource (Jeff Harrington);
obtained h/w & s/w for Mac development work
- revamped the phased rollout plan to focus on external (to the project
team) impact
- completed the service & support plan
- mini-team formed to address 3827 to 3160 migration
- presented project update at 9/12 OCMG
- requested IPM application funding from Minai-Azary
Goals for the coming period:
- setup IPM for production use; test & config operator and end user
client interfaces
- test CAO printer with IPM; move CAO and E19-630 HP8100 from APS to IPM;
install desktop software in CAO as required
- develop the operator training and documentation
- receive and install "crash & burn" AIX box for ASST
- complete detailed phased rollout plan
- define the initial queue names (carry over)
- finalize IBM contract for web & client code changes (carry over)
- further update Enterprise Printing WBS
- research & respond to questions additional questions from Rosenberg
- work with ITAG to "ratify" the proposed security position paper
(carry over)
Issues:
Our Mac client coder is already being pulled in another direction. We
should have a better handle on the amount of work entailed within the
next couple of weeks.
Key learnings:
none
Team dynamics:
Everyone is tugged in many directions. There have been delays with
the business modeling work due to other more pressing work.
Additional comments:
ASST (Jody Housman) has been very helpful getting the IPM production
and test/backup servers up and running.
