Gang,
Two items I picked up on at Tuesday's OCMG...
Matt mentioned a documentation model for his IMAP project which
we've talked about after seeing Syracuse's web pages on printing
at their university. Matt talked about a new "email homepage"
as a home directory pointing to everything you want to know about
email @ mit. Today we point to platform specific email info from
the related platform's web pages. For example, mainframe email
help is available from mainframe related help directories, and
the same is true for mh for Athena. I like Matt's model and propose
we follow the same path for printing @ mit.
Of more immediate concern, JDB was clearly interested in seeing
the business model to support the new printing services. He reaffirmed
this work must be completed before we roll out the service to any
new customers. The main issue being the potential for adding a
significant number of customers without any additional funding
sources (if we go with the model of using existing budgeted
ASOP & ASAP dollars).
