Hi Team,

Here is my first pass at the description of IPM components. Please reply with
any suggestions for improvements.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
IPM Server for AIX
------------------
This is the basic server software that will run on the RS/6000 servers under
the AIX operating system.

IPM Operations GUI for Windows
------------------------------
This is the client software which the operators can use to perform any of
their IPM tasks. Although it can be secured via DCE running under AIX, we
will probably run this "unsecured" within the W91 subnet. The E19 Operators
will probably need to rely on the web interface for secure IPM operator tasks.

IPM Administrator GUI for Windows
---------------------------------
This is the client software which the sys admins can use to perform any of
their IPM tasks (e.g. creating and deleting printers, queues, modifying media
types, etc.).. Although it can be secured via DCE running under AIX, we
will probably run this "unsecured" within the W91 subnet.

InfoPrint Submit for Windows
----------------------------
This is client software intended for end users. Since it requires DCE in
for security, we will probably not roll it out for general use. We will
instead rely on the web interface and the port monitor to meed end user needs.

InfoPrint Select for Windows
----------------------------
This is client software intended for end users. Since it requires DCE in
for security, we will probably not roll it out for general use. We will
instead rely on the web interface and the port monitor to meed end user needs.

IPM Web Interface
-----------------
This is implemented with a Lotus Domino web server which runs on the same
machine as the IPM server. It will be customized for our installation by
IBM and will provide us with the following function:

   - submit print jobs from "ready to print" files (e.g. postscipt files)
   - starting and stopping printers
   - display print jobs in queues
   - reordering print jobs in queues
   - moving print jobs between queues
   - deleting print jobs

It will be used by system administrators, operators, help desk staff, and end
users and will be secured via SSL.

IPM "Port Monitor"
------------------
This is a printer driver which will be installed on client desktop machines
to provide them with the ability to print from their desktop applications.
It will allow them to create desktop printer icons and to direct print output
to a selection of printers known to IPM. It will work with our kerberos
infrastructure to authenticate clients and will recognize any authorization
rules associated with specific printers.
