Rocklyn, yes I had one customer install the software themselves. This
person read all the manuals and became quite good at IPM. He previously
had a good understanding of AFP. There is also a 4 1/2 day class on IPM to
train customers. From the one customer I know attended, the class didn't
get high marks, and the individual didn't feel he could install IPM
himself. I think the best way to handle this is to have someone read the
manuals and work with me on the installs for both the server and the
client. After that, I believe they could do additional installs and
upgrades independently.
#2 I currently do all upgrades for IPM installs. There is no reason why a
customer couldn't do them if they read the manuals.
#3 The last rate quoted was $200/hr and the general install took 1 week.
That included soup to nuts...downloading AIX prereqs for IPM, installing
IPM on server and clients tailoring, and educating customer on its use.
Yours would be easier as the IP addresses are known, most things have been
tested. I would guess we are looking at 3-4 days for 2 servers and a hand
full of clients. Education of others may be beyond that but you may wish
to do that yourselves. This estimate does not include the Web interface.
#4 We need some lead time to get a contract in place...a couple of days.
However, with you guys I would start when needed and the contract stuff
could follow if we had a clear understanding we intended to do. I am
currently being scheduled for several installs of IPM/NT, upgrade to IPM
3.1, a large demo system install of a high end printer and a customer
install of the same type printer. Let me know in advance when you would
like to start so I can schedule the time.

Subject: Installing InfoPrint Manager
Hi Jeff,
As I recall, you told us that you generally arrange for IBM to install
InfoPrint Manager (for a fee) rather than have the customer do it. I
would like to know the following:
1) Do you have any clients who choose to install the product themselves?
2) How do your clients handle software upgrages? Do they install these
themselves, or do they have you come in to upgrade the product as well?
3) What is the typical fee for installing the product (please break this
down into rate and hours required). I'm sending this from home at the
moment and I don't recall if these figures appear on any of the
documents
you've already sent us.
4) How much lead time is required if we decide to have IBM install IPM?
Are you the person who does the install, or do we have to contact
someone
else? What would be the next steps?
Of course we will keep you up to date on any changes in our delivery
schedule.
Thanks,
Rocklyn
