Apologies for the delay in sending this status report.
Accomplishments for the past period:
- met with IBM and held conference call to better understand their
InfoPrint Manager (IPM) for AIX offering; held initial discussions
re integrating either their DCE or non-DCE version into our existing
Kerberos environment; obtained an IPM test environment from IBM
- touched bases with Barr Systems to get a better understanding
of their product offerings
- met with Xerox twice; Xerox presented their printer engine options
at the second meeting; more information has been requested re their
print management software
- drafted and sent a follow up set of questions to Moore; received
their response to these questions
- reworked an R-Ready secure network printing position paper and
presented same to ITIT; also discussed the proposed Moore
architecture which manages both the legacy & new print realms
from a single management tool - main issues here are supported
platforms and security
- produced generic architecture descriptions for the models identified
to date; reviewed i-date model
- continue work of defining current costs
- drafted a WBS & timeline
Goals for the coming period:
- sanity check the current architectural models and viable vendors
with Gartner
- bring the Moore consulting work to closure
- evaluate IPM with IBM's supplied test environment; continue
dicussions with IBM re integration of IPM into our Kerberos
environment
- work with ITIT to "ratify" the proposed security position paper
- work with ITIT to address subsequent issues which arose from the
3/9 meeting
- continue business model efforts
Issues:
Buy versus Build discussions pop up regularly during team discussions.
We'll need to resolve this issue ASAP to expedite the solution
selection process.
Key learnings:
As Lorraine mentioned in a recent discovery project report - "Vendors.
Can't live with them, can't live without them".
Team dynamics:
We're all tugged in many directions but the team is committed to meeting
the 7/1 implementation target date. To help improve the team's
efficiency, we've split our meetings to focus on business modeling
and technical issues separately.
Additional comments:
None.
