Hello Team,
At the end of yesterdays meeting, Cecilia, Dave, Kip, and I were discussing
how to determine the cost of mainframe printing software (among other things).
Dave suggested that we take the total cost of all our software and apportion
it according to the percentage of the mainframe devoted to printing.
During an earlier conversation yesterday, Rachel Sage pointed out to me that
there is a HESC group to which we subscribe (if that's the correct word) which
contains just printing software:
Group I-A3, Selected VM System Printing and Publishing Programs
This group includes the following software items:
5684-026 BookManager BUILD - VM Edition
5684-062 BookManager READ - VM Edition
5684-141 Print Services Facility /VM Version 2
5688-015 Publishing Systems BookMaster
5688-021 Fonts: Bar Code/Optical Character Recognition
5688-190 Page Printer Formatting Aid/370
5688-191 Overlay Generation Language/370
5688-224 Publishing Systems BrowseMaster Version 2
5771-ABA Fonts: Sonoran Serif p,r
5771-ABB Fonts: Sonoran Sans Serif q,r
5771-ABC Fonts: Pi and Specials e
5771-ADA Fonts: Data1
5771-ADB Fonts: APL2 5771-ADT Fonts: Mathematics and Science
Since this list includes all of the software to shich Cecilia referred
below (as well as BookManager), why don't we just take the cost of this HESC
group as the cost of mainframe printing software and call it a day?
The HESC web page can be found at
http://www.hied.ibm.com/software/hesc/hescover.html
According to the fee structure the annual fee for group I-A3 is $4,160.
I will concede that this would not account for the fact that we have some
non print-related utility software that supports mainframe services in
general (e.g. VM/Secure) and therefore supports printing in part. This
would be an argument for pursuing Dave's suggested strategy. I will
leave it to the business model group to sort this out.
