Subject: Joint MIT-Caltech Statement for Peaceful Justice (fwd)

to MIT Techers:
---------------

Fellow Techers:

At Caltech we are deeply concerned about how the United States is
responding to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the
Pentagon. As proposed by Wesleyan University, we are preparing a
statement petitioning for Peaceful Justice, as opposed to retaliatory
violence. Recognizing that you may be ahead of us in preparing an MIT
statement, we invite you to join us in writing and publicizing a joint
statement. MIT and Caltech are recognized as two of the most
prestigious
and closely related universities in the world. A joint statement from
MIT
and Caltech students would draw the attention of our nation's leaders
and
gain extensive coverage on national media.

The statement and accompanying press release must be prepared by Monday
evening and finalized by 3pm EST (noon PCT) on Tuesday so that they can
be
released to the press in time for coverage of Thursday's events. We will
be among the colleges throughout the United States recognizing a Moment
of
Solidarity on Thursday, September 20th from noon to 1pm.

For more information and Wesleyan's proposal and statement, please see
www.peacefuljustice.cjb.net. To contribute, please contact me at
caron@caltech.edu or (626) 395-3762 by the end of Monday, September
17th.
Thank you for your help and support.

Genuinely,

Jennifer Caron
Caltech Y Executive Committee President
