Following this most recent tragedy I finally realized that, although I have
considered myself fairly well-informed about many aspects of world politics
(for lack of a better term), I am in fact not very well informed about the
situation in the Middle East.

An office mate asked: "Why are the people in the Middle East so angry at
the US?" I could give certain answers about general US aggression, support
of Israel, Iraq, the Gulf War, the WTO, various impoverishment policies.
But I would like to have much more specific information.

I would really appreciate (and I am sure many others would as well)
intelligent postings giving more history, analysis and background about the
issues facing people in the Middle East. Also referrals to good web sites
or books would be helpful.

Thanks very much
Jan
