Hi
I agree with Rhet that war would be BAD for the environment. Furthermore,
we can definitely include in the definition of "terrorism" the many
horrific ecological disasters we witness every day.

For those who feel an urgency to express opinions about the current march
toward blood retribution in the aftermath of this terrible tragedy in New
York City and D.C., here is a list to start with. I wrote my first
letter, which I will paste after this list, to Hilary Clinton. I then
forwarded it to all of the additional people and news agencies, with a
brief introduction.

Please SPEAK UP!!
Colin Powell and other leaders are making statements such as:
"The American people made a judgement: we are at war, and they want a
comprehensive response; they want us to act as if we are at war, and
we're going to do
      that," Powell told CBS television.

We MUST SPEAK UP AGAINST A BLOODBATH.

Dear Senator Rodham-Clinton

For shame!

While watching the news last night, I saw your wholehearted (and I believe
politically motivated) endorsement of "retaliation". This is not the
response of a statesperson and leader, but the scripted response of one
thinking ahead to future elections and political aspirations.

We do not need more carnage. This tragic event is truly a nightmare, and
of course must be taken very seriously. However, if Resident (sic) Bush is
given carte blanche to declare war somewhere (something I am sure he was
planning to do long before this crisis-- he does owe a lot of people a lot
of money in kickbacks), thousands of innocent women, men and children will
die. This will very likely include US military personnel and impoverished,
desperate people in the third world.

Please show greater statespersonship and demand a measured criminal
investigation. Demand justice through the courts, not bombs. We will
never end terrorism by committing more acts of terrorism ourselves.
However, if we can begin a real process of communication, exchange,
negotiation, and change; if we can begin to rectify the power imbalance
between the haves and have-nots; if we can show greater respect for peoples
throughout the world, the support base of terrorism will be drastically
undermined.

Do not give in to the cry for blood, a cry motivated by fear, money, and
political aspirations. Please show some real leadership and call for a
peaceful resolution through a criminal investigation. We do not need a
dangerous war.
