On Tuesday May 8th there will be a WalkOut at Noon on 77 Mass. Ave.
At the WalkOut we need to have representatives from all organizations on
this campus. This is an open forum to foster and promote discussion of
“tough issues” concerning race, gender, diversity, and multicultural
awareness that we as an Institute of great thinkers and problem solvers can
begin to tackle with our collective faculties. Issues that we need to
inform others about and be informed about ourselves will be talked about at
the WalkOut. The purpose of this walkout is unity and understanding amongst
students of all colors, creeds, and sexuality. For those interested there
is a meeting in New House 4 first floor at 6pm tonight to provide you with
more details. If you are unable to make it to this meeting please contact
kvc so that we can arrange a brief meeting at a more convenient time. You
are receiving this email because you are the leaders of women's groups,
minority groups, the ua, the ifc, asa, gamit, etc. and you have the power
to promote change on this campus. In order for this event to be effective
we are asking for your petitions, fliers, voices, and just sheer presence
at the WalkOut on Tuesday.
Walk Out because you are concerned about protecting your rights (whatever
they may be) on this campus. On the day of the event, petitions, fliers,
banners, buttons will be passed around. Voices from whichever leadership
bodies want to be heard will be heard. Other colleges including
Northeastern, Harvard, BU, Tufts, BC, and Brandeis will be participating as
well. Together we will be making a statement about issues at large
including sexism, harassment, racism, stereotypes, and all the other issues
that many of us are, unfortunately, unaware of. Hopefully in response to
the large support demonstrating the strong desire to promote understanding
and awareness on this campus, we will get more discussion with and more
immediate action by the administration.
