Actually, this is a good thing. Ten years ago, I think the numbers
were on the order of 5% corporate and 80% government (mostly
Department of Defense and Department of Energy). MIT was, and still
largely is, at the whim of DOD spending cycles and policies (which is
one reason why MIT took so long to attack ROTC discrimination). Your
choices for funding research are: governement, corporations, or
tripling tuition. It's better to have partnerships with many
corporations (hoping they balance each other out some) than the
alternatives.
