Noon Monday: Sweeney speaks at Harvard

Many of you are aware that a group of Harvard students have
been occupying the main administration building (Massachusetts Hall) to
demand Harvard pay all its workers the living wage adopted by the
Cambridge City Council ($10.25/hr. plus health benefits). This has
attracted a huge amount of attention, and at noon on Monday John
Sweeney, president of the AFL-CIO and thereby one of the most prominent
voices of organized labor in America, will be speaking.
The event will be near Massachusetts Hall, where the sit-in is
happening. It's somewhere in Harvard Yard, but since Harvard's website
is down I can't tell you exactly where! If you get to Harvard Square
people will know.
The people organizing this campaign are hoping for a really big
turnout. If you're like me and haven't done anything to support this
effort, this
is probably the one event to really try to attend. Big crowds get media
attention, and that creates nightmares for Harvard's upper-level
management and board of directors.
Plus, you get to put down that obscure liberal-arts college near Brattle
St!
So, noon Monday Mass. Hall in Harvard. Be there!
