Hi Everyone,
We will have a ***meeting today***, as I mentioned with Campus
Action Network folks to discuss organizing among the MIT community and
with other colleges/universities in the area.
4pm, 2-147
We also want to talk about what we have been working on so far and
get people's input, leadership, what-have-you for other issues
you think should also be addressed and events/actions to address them.
Please come to this meeting and figure out how you can get involved!
We want this to be a cooperative in every sense, meaning we share
leadership roles, share ideas about directions to take, share
support for a range of events related to the theme of social justice.
Please come and make this organization what ***you*** want it to be!!
Events we already have in the works are as follows:
Fr. Roy Bougois is coming March 4th and we want to
get awareness up on the School of the Americas (SOA) before then.
( SOA is definitely an imperialistic, anti-democratic, pro-violence
military tool of the US to keep latin american in the hands of trustworthy
good-old-boys, in case you haven't heard much about it before... check
out: http://www.soaw.org)
We want to get things going for the big anti-genetically modified organisms
rally this March. This should be Boston's equivalent of Seatle's
WTO, so we definitely need to help make it happen. Vandana Shiva
is coming to give a talk on the 16th of March. She is a famous expert on
the impact of large scale development projects on communities and on
bio-devestation. On March 1st and also an additional date, Martin Shaw will
come to teach us about how the UK got much virtually complete restrictions
on GMO and what we can do to try and get that to happen in US.
We are in the works of doing a Free Lori Berenson event/letter writing
campaign for this mit alumna. Check out:
http://www.freelori.org if you haven't heard much about her.
We need a plan for a glorious celebration of womenhood this March 8th for
international womens day. We need to coordinate with the various other
womens groups on campus.
We want the administration to provide Impact/Model Mugging self-defense as
a service to the women of the community. The getting the money is the part
that will take doing. Impact is already willing to come to campus and do
something. We need to figure out how the money works around here and try to
make this happen asap.
I hope you can make it!!
Regards,
Aimee
