The Free Trade Area of the Americas is a bold bid for
corporate domination of the western hemisphere and of our
lives. If passed it will further concentrate power and
wealth into the hands of a few. The FTAA trade agreement
poses an unprecedented threat to working people; to
our water, air and forests; to education, public health and
housing; to women, people of color, immigrants,
farmers and indigenous peoples; and to our freedom.
In Quebec City, Canada on April 20 the heads of 34
governments of North, South, and Central America, the
Caribbean and hundreds of corporations will meet in
secret to negotiate the FTAA text in the midst of a city that is
being turned into a police state. Tens of thousands of
people from every sector of society will stand up to the FTAA in
Quebec City and in solidarity actions around the
world. The actual working text of the FTAA has been kept secret
from the peoples of the Americas whose communitis it
would devastate.
Groups in Canada and the US have demanded that their
governments release the secret FTAA text by March 20th.
While we are in the streets of Boston, people
in Ottawa and Vancouver, Canada, and in San Francisco and other US
cities, will demand the release of the secret FTAA
text.
Everywhere people are rising up against this global
economic system and creating a world of our own making in it's
place. From Chiapas to Brazil, to the Boston people
are replacing this fundamentally undemocratic system with
ecological, directly democratic, community controlled
alternatives.
