Dear Family and Friends of Prisoners,
The Boston Coalition for Mumia Abu-Jamal has been running a film series
on Mondays for the past two months at the Freedom House at 14 Crawford
St. in Grove Hall. We are sending this out to inform people that we
will be changing our meeting night from Monday night to Tuesday night at
6:30 p.m. Because most folks come straight from work, we will continue to
have food thanks to City Fresh Caterers who prepares an excellent meal.
We have been running this series to educate ourselves of the prison
industrial complex and learn of the many ways that it touches our lives.
We do this so that we can better understand the system, so that we can be
in a better position to help our loved ones and ourselves to fight
against it. One of the things that has become clear is that when people
in the 60s and early 70s began breaking down the stereotypes, and started
talking, they began to work together to meet the needs of their
communities. This formed unity in the community but it also brought an
organized opposition by the f.b.i. against these groups and
organizations. We are learning lessons from the past to better guide us
in the present.
Another thing that we learned is that the more organized people were the
better their lives were. It was easier for them, when organized and
moving as one, to force those who "have" to loosen the grip on those who
"have not." To stop this unity from building we saw those in government
deploy tactics to bring about divisions amongst us. We are just
beginning to study some of the ways they divide us. We hope to rebuild
this unity, learn from past mistakes, and start living better lives. I
hope that you people can see yourselves that strong. I hope that you can
have faith in yourselves, because I know we can accomplish anything
together. Our history is full of examples. We, the people on the
bottom, have done everything, with nothing.
We welcome and encourage you to join us on Tuesdays at 6:30.
Another topic to be discussed on Tuesday is recent developments and
police attacks on MOVE.
Family and Friends of Prisoners group will meet Wednesday 6:00 @ Roxbury
Community College...This meeting will be preparing for the upcoming March
15th hearings at the State House on Bills introduced on prisons and
prisoners.
"NO ONE CAN DO EVERYTHING...BUT EVERYONE CAN DO SOMETHING."
