EPIIC cordially invites you to an International Symposium on "Race and
Ethnicity: A Global Inquiry" to take place from March 1st-6th at Tufts
University.
Practitioners, scholars, journalists, activists, and distinguished speakers
from all over the world will be in attendance discussing a multitude of
vexing ethical and racial issues, from the politics of identity in a global
context to racial and ethnic integration in the European Community; from
authenticity and ambiguity in the arts to the new racial realities
challenging South Africa.
The 2001 recipients of the Dr. Jean Mayer Global Citizenship Award and
keynote speakers are:
Kwame Anthony Appiah, Professor of Afro-American Studies and Philosophy at
Harvard University, Coauthor of Color Conscious: The Political Morality of
Race and Author of In My Father's House: Africa in the Philosophy of Culture;
Donald Horowitz, Duke Professor of Law and Political Science, Duke
University and Author of The Deadly Ethnic Riot, Ethnic Groups In Conflict;
Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela, Psychologist and Former Member of the Amnesty
Committee of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission;
Ronald Takaki, Professor of Asian American Studies and Ethnic Studies,
University of California, Berkeley; Author, Hiroshima: Why America Dropped
the Atomic Bomb, Double Victory: A Multicultural History of America in
World War II, and Strangers from a Different Shore.
