Promotional Biography
Paris Carriger
I was convicted of capital murder and robbery in 1978 on the word
of Robert Otis Dunbar, a 7 time convicted felon. He was given immunity
for his testimony in this case.
In 1986 Robert Dunbar admitted in open court under oath that he
and he alone committed the murder of Robert Gibson Shaw and framed me for
the crime.
For reasons known only to the state of Arizona, they continued
their efforts to execute me for that murder until the 9th Circuit Court
ordered a new trial.
While the state admitted privately that Dunbar was a liar of
extreme measure they also offered me a plea bargain where I was required
to allow a guilty plea to be entered into the record for me without
comment that included Dunbar's original testimony as if it was fact for
which I would be sentenced to TIME SERVED. The option was for me to sit
in jail as long as it took to have a new trial after which I may or may
not have been able to prove my innocence. Such a new trial may have taken
as long as two years. I was at this time in a wheel chair and uncertain in
my own mind if I would live long enough to complete a new trial. For that
reason, I accepted a deal that even the judge knew was flawed. Under
these facts in the record, I am now a convicted murderer. I may have to
accept that fact but I will not be silent.
