Hello Maisie, Art, et al. I am by no means interested in limiting your
political dialogue. However, I am a bit perplexed at how this conversation
found its way into my email. Far as I can tell, when I wrote to be included
on future MIT events regarding feminism, I got put onto a larger list.
I'm not exactly a champion for Al Gore, but this discussion about personal
freedoms, or more to the point, how they have been subjugated by "Big
Government" is frightening!
> Environmentally, Gore appears to
>have swallowed the environmentalist's arguments whole. That >is, he
agrees that
>the government has the will and capability to protect the >environment -
>regardless of the property interests involved. This is also >unproven
and, in
>many cases, a violation of the 5th Amendment against >government "takings."
This is one of the most regressive things I've heard in the last few years!
I'm not even going to attempt to enlighten you with regards to the
responsibilities of the common good versus unchecked "individual freedom"
ballyhoo. Sounds like the author of this has swallowed the Republican
rhetoric whole! And is most definately a christian, with all of those
egotistical notions about "ownership" and "property".
If this discussion is the reason "peace2@mit.edu" (or whatever list I've
been added to) exists, please REMOVE me from it. I have received some
thoughtful posts re: feminism (from the same list, I don't know), but
having to read this sort of political rambling is too high a price to pay
to connect with the progressive women out there.
