K.N. Panikkar
Cultural Nationalism and Communal Politcs
K.N. Panikkar is the Dean of School of Social Sciences and a Professor of
History at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Recently Professor Panikkar
has found himself at the center of a controversy surrounding the censorship of
his book, Towards Freedom, 1940: A Documentary History of the Freedom
Struggle.
This book was withdrawn from the Oxford University Press by the BJP government
at the very last minute. Professor Panikkar has made extensive
contributions to
historical scholarship on India. He is the author of Towards Freedom, 1940, A
Documentary History of the Freedom Struggle (forthcoming); British
Diplomacy in
North India; Against Lord and State, Religion and Peasant Uprisings in
Malabar;
Culture and Consciousness in Modern India; Culture, Ideology and Hegemony-
Intellectuals and Social Consciousness in Colonial India; Communal Threat,
Secular Challenge.
