Robert McChesney's _Rich Media, Poor Democracy_ (The New Press, 1999)
destroys the assumption that a society drenched in commercial information
"choices" is a democratic one. McChesney maintains that the major
beneficiaries of the so-called Information Age are no more than a handful
of enormous corporations, and that this concentrated coprorate control is
disastrous for any notion of participatory democracy. The author will
discuss these and other issues with NPR's Christopher Lydon.
