It's just your average rock/folk/hip-hop/electronica political benefit...
This Friday, please join us for a great benefit show to raise funds for the
legal and court fees of those arrested in Philly during the Republican
National
Convention.
The musical line-up for the evening includes:
- - Hip hop with the Atomites
- - Folksinger David Rovics (www.davidrovics.com)
- - Rock Band Segue
- - Electronica with members of the Toneburst collective,
including Xrae, Mis ter int er rupt, and Splice
- - And more hip-hop with MC's from Critical Breakdown,
including Urban Legends, Endangered Specie, MC Bone,
Kwamex, and Jake the Snake.
There will also be legal updates about the RNC
defendants, as well as info on those who were arrested
at the debate protests in Boston.
The concert is this Friday, October 27, at from 8:00 pm until 1:00 or
2:00 a.m. at the Central Square VFW Hall at 288 B Geen
Street in Central Sqaure, Cambridge. Admission is $5,
though no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
At the same time, as it is a fundraiser, larger
contributions are welcome! There will also be a
raffle inside, with tickets selling for about $1 each.
Over 400 activist were arrested, either in the streets or in a
warehouse making puppets (yes, puppets). Among other things, they were
protesting the injustices of the criminal justice system. Those arrested
experienced many violations of their constitutional, civil, and human rights
in the streets and jails, and the city still continues to press excessive
charges.
When the city authorities offered plea bargains only to certain defendants,
over 200 defendants turned down the offer, choosing to stand in solidarity
with those whose charges were more severe. They all face trials in the
coming weeks, and need your support!
