Greetings:
On October 29, the Victory Gardens Project, along with the Boston
Coalition for Mumia Abu-Jamal, will be distributing free, organically
grown vegetables at the First Church in Roxbury. This project was
initiated several years back by three political prisoners: Herman Bell,
Albert "Nuh" Washington, and Jalil Abdul Muntaquin.
For the past four years, inner-city youth have collaborated with activist
organic farmers in rural Maine in an effort to grow, harvest, and
distribute 3.5 tons of food to the inner city. This effort continues the
work of political prisoners in demonstrating concrete ways of developing
self-determination. It is also done to share work, experience, and the
cultural diversity between rural and urban communities.
The Boston Coalition needs your help in getting the word out to the
community about this distribution. On Saturday, October 21, and again on
Saturday, October 28, we will fan out into the community to deliver a
leaflet announcing the distribution, along with materials about the
Boston Coalition and about important ballot referendums coming up in
November.
Can you make a 2-hour commitment to help spread the word? We will be
meeting at the First Church in Roxbury (Elliott Square, near Dudley) at
1:00 p.m. on each of the next two Saturdays and then going door to door
to distribute the information about the October 29 food distribution.
We'll end at about 3:00 p.m.
Folks who are willing to make a serious commmitment to help out on one or
both of these Saturdays are asked to please contact us at
