HUMAN GENES ARE NOT CORPORATE PROPERTY
A Talk by
Professor Jonathan King
TUESDAY
October 17, 7:00 pm
at MIT
Room 2-190
This election year, one topic the two major candidates are
avoiding is how biotechnology is used in society and who
benefits from its use. Yet the current policies surrounding
biotechnology profoundly affect the food we eat and the
environment we live in. Currently, more than 60% of our food
contains genetically modified ingredients and no long term
health and environmental studies are required by federal
regulatory agencies. Furthermore, the privatization of the
human genome could have consequences that are detrimental to
a large portion of the world population.
Biology Prof. Jonathan King is an outspoken critic of
the private control over genetic information. He has warned
against the health hazards posed by genetically modified food.
Come hear Prof. King give compelling arguments against
the privatization of the human genome.
